Oh Boys

I never envisioned myself as a mother with sons. Even in high school when we did the project where you pretend a bag of flour is a baby, I was excited when I drew the slip saying that my bag of flour was a girl. I didn't even want boy flour.

But now? The only girl I've birthed weighed five pounds and was later made into cookies. And the boys I've birthed have caused me to say things I've never imagined. Like, "Stop hitting your brother with that rolled up yoga mat. No, I don't care if he's laughing, that doesn't mean you keep hitting him." or "Keep your hands on your own parts. I SAID ON YOUR OWN PARTS." or "Yes, burping is funny, but if you keep trying to do it, you're going to injure yourself." or my personal favorite, "If you want to talk about things that happen in the bathroom, you may go sit in the bathroom and talk to the mirror."
What I really never imagined, though, was how much I'd love this, how much they'd complete me. How could I have ever thought that I didn't want them?

This. So much this. The laughing as they pummel each other. The complete inability to understand the concept of private parts. The look of disbelief on the face of my wife (who grew up with two sisters only) when she hears the words (and various sounds) that stream from two boys' mouths. Such a . . . joy.

When I was pregnant with Ben, I was SURE he was Anna. When I found out during a late term ultrasound that it was indeed Ben, I panicked. But man, I LOVE being a mom of a boy. It's the best.

I'm pregnant with my first child- a boy. I'm excited, I promise!, but I never pictured myself as the mama of a boy, either.
It sounds like I'm in for a treat:-).

Can you continue to write down all the things you say to them so that I can copy? Pretty please?

It's so funny you said this. When I was pregnant I was really on the fence about whether I wanted a boy or a girl, but my mother only wanted a girl. We were talking the other day and she was saying she can't believe she ever wanted a girl, and that she wouldn't trade our guy for 100 girls. :-) Little boys are the sweetest!

My first child is a girl and when I was pregnant with our 2nd (and last) child I wanted another girl so badly. I was stunned when they told me it was a boy. What would I do with a boy?? But now, that boys is 2.5 years old and is the sweetest thing in the whole wide world. How could I have ever thought I didn't want a boy? LOVE LOVE being a mama to a boy!
