the lovliness of loving you

I have eaten horribly this week. So horribly that it's not even funny. It's Secret Santa week at work, which means I've gotten candy in my mail box EVERY SINGLE DAY. And I've eaten all of it, every sweet, chocolate-y bite.

As if this week's sugar binge hasn't been bad enough, I took the boys for milkshakes Sunday. It was one of those mom moments where I was totally patting myself on the back. When Luke was a baby, we never went out to eat EVER because the thought of taking him to a restaurant was so daunting. The first time we ate out, he was a year old--and taking him by myself? I would've broken out in hives at the mere thought. So, as I packed the boys in the car by myself and took them out to eat by myself without even a second thought, I realized that I totally got this. Except that last night, Shane and I took the boys out together and it was an unmitigated DISASTER, so really? I don't got this.

But what I DID get was two delicious milkshakes shared with my two best boys.

It doesn't get any sweeter than this.

No, it doesn't get any sweeter than that. Now you've made me want to take a grandchild (or 2!) to our local go-to milkshake place, Newport Creamery. (Around here we call milkshakes "cabinets"... don't know why since I wasn't born here... or "Awful Awfuls"... translation: Awful Big, Awful Good.) Sound awfully good right about now!

Is that steak and shake?! Oh, how I miss that place. I used to take my kids there on special occasions and as I recall they were always well behaved there. It must be something in the shake. :)

Cute! :) And I'm right there with you...I don't got this. ;) There are times when I take the kids out, and everything goes great. So I'm brave and try it again. And that's usually about when all hell breaks lose. They do it to put me in my place...I just know it.

Very adorable! I confess one the highlights of my life was taking my son and twin nephews all at the age of five to eat in a somewhat nice restaurant and having an old lady compliment me on how well-behaved they were. Don't know how that ever happened!

There will always be more good times out than nightmares!

Sweet faces!

And now I want ice cream. I'm trying to be really good because I just lost all the weight I put on from the godforsaken Halloween candy.

I took my two kids to a restaurant with my husband AND my in-laws today, and it was disastrous.

I think that's just the way that life is with little kids. Disaster can strike at any moment. But you can't let it stop you from living. (Although I often let it do just that - but I regret it.)

I miss Steak n Shake SO much. I made sure to plan that into our upcoming Florida vacation.

Oh and my goodness do I ever hear you on hives over taking a bambino out to eat by yourself. Mine were always a NIGHTMARE in restaurants. SO...we did a whole lot of eating in.
