Winner is comment #2, Barb! Good job, Barb. In the meantime, check out the Alexander family study guide. Complete with thematic principles!
I have two absolute favorite children's books. One of them is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day [affiliate link]. I love Alexander. I empathize with Alexander. Because who hasn't had a very bad day that just gets continuously worse? So bad that you think about moving away, far away? Except that eventually you realize that bad days happen everywhere--even in Australia.
When I heard that there was going to be an Alexander movie, I called my mom because I was so excited. So when I received an email about receiving a prize pack giveaway, I couldn't wait! I am definitely taking my kids to see this one.
And because it's not a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for you, you can also enter to win your own prize pack.
The prize pack includes, as shown:
- Coffee mug
- Alligator stress toy
- Mini poster
- Green highlighter
- Reusable grocery bag
I am super excited about the poster! I love posters to hang in my classroom, especially when they're literature related (and yes, you can actually learn a great deal of figurative elements from children's literature).
To enter, all you need to do is let me know your favorite children's book. For those wondering? My other favorite book is I'll Fix Anthony[affiliate link]. As a younger child, I felt for Anthony's younger brother.
Giveaway ends Friday, October 3rd.
I received my own prize pack for hosting this giveaway, but all opinions are my own

Pick just ONE favorite?? So hard! How about a favorite author? Don and Audrey Wood, who wrote "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big, Hungry, Bear" and "King Bidgood's in the Bathtub". Hands down my favorite authors.
Oh those books by the Woods are fun to read!
My favorite story book to read aloud to my children is probably Food Fight by Carol Diggory Shields. My favorite story book to read as a child was The Giving Tree. I wore my copy out.
(But the favorite list has many more entries of course.)
I am so excited for this movie, because my sons LOVE the book. We have the words memorized by this point. As for a children's book from my childhood, I vividly remember enjoying The Poky Little Puppy. I realize that is not exactly a high quality children's lit classic, but man, I loved looking at the illustrations of those puppies, and I got a kick out of the main character's naughty puppy shenanigans.
I love this book! I loved it growing up too. I also remember picking "The King, the Mice, and the Cheese" quite often for story time when I was little. A bit older I LOVED Roald Dahl, especially "Matilda."
Oh this book! Do you know how many times in my adult life I have come home exclaiming that I have had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day? Me either, because it's more than I can count. I may have also referred to myself and Angi who is not (I mean it, do you hear me?) going to [insert terrible idea here]. Love!
But also, Where the Wild Things Are.
Favorite author? Eric Carle. Love, love, love his books!
Favorite book? I'm not sure I could pick one from my childhood. But my favorite to read with the boys was "I Love You Through and Through."
I can only pick one book??? How about Chica Chica Boom Boom. I think I still might have it memorized. Someone mentioned King Bidgood's In the Bathtub and that one got a lot of use in my house too.
Lots of great books but my kids always loved the poetry of Shel Silverstein (and I love it, too!).
You are asking the preschool teacher to pick one book???? That is impossible. How about Charlie the Caterpillar, Owl Babies, Julias the Baby of the World. Okay, I'll stop now.
Oh man - that's hard. There are so many great kids books out there. I love Sandra Boynton books (Pajama Time was my kids' favorite), the Llama Llama books, The Giving Tree by Shel Silvertein, Horton Hatches an Egg...man...so many - and finally Otis. For older kids you can't go wrong with Judy Blume or Beverly Clary books...who doesn't love Superfudge?
I can't even remember what MY favorite book was as a child, because my opinions are so intertwined now with what my kiddos love :) Right now we are reading Matilda! OH! I remembered :) The Little House books. All of them :)
I loved "A Wrinkle in Time" when I was growing up. My favorite children's book was "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big, Hungry, Bear" and I just bought it for my son in board book format!
What a fun giveaway! I did love this book as a child too. I remember my teachers printing out this story in Mad Lib form and had us fill in our our nouns and verbs. It was one of my favorite assignments as a student!
Hmmm. My favorite children's book??? That's so hard to pick! I'll go with Green Eggs and Ham. I read that one to my oldest daughter soooo many times. I am sure it is permanently etched into my brain.
Who won?
