What I Read Wednesday

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams: Stories
This is a collection of Stephen King short stories that were never officially published in a book, though some of them have been out for awhile. Before each story, he gives a forward and dedicates it to another author. While I'd read some of the stories before, others were unfamiliar. Mostly, it was a collection of macabre--some supernatural, some human. I loved it!

The Infinite Sea: The Second Book of the 5th Wave
The second book in the 5th Wave trilogy. This continues with Cassie Sullivan and her friends, trying to survive an alien race intent on wiping out humanity in various waves. As far as sci-fi dystopia, this is pretty engaging.

What are you reading?

One of the great things about kids getting older is that they're better able to amuse themselves on vacation - I finished 2 books last week! Yay me!

1. Bone Gap - I often have a hard time buying into 'magic' of any sort in my books, but this one made it believable for me.

2. This is you life harriet chance - I really liked this one. I breezed right through it and wished at the end I could give harriet a hug.

Challenger Deep is currently on the bedside table.

When the Moon is Low....
follows the story of an Afghanistan woman, her childhood, and early marriage, and then why and when her family decided they need to leave Afghanistan during the reign of the Taliban.

I am only 3/4 though this book, but a really good look at what refugees go through in their search for a better life and WHY just staying in their own country is such a terrible option for them.

Oh and I have a question - is "My Grandmother told me to tell you she's sorry" the same book as "My Grandmother sends her regards and apologizes"???

I'm so confused.

I read A Strangeness in My Mind and while I got a bit bogged down in parts, I really enjoyed the generational story and strong sense of place (in this case Istanbul, Turkey). And I finally convinced my 14yo to read Bone Gap and she LOVED it... which makes me happy so I'm sharing that.
