As you know--or maybe you don't know--I love mud runs. I've done two and I loved each one. If you're thinking, ew... mud! Mud is gross! Don't, because mud runs are different. Somehow it's not as gross as stepping in a mud puddle, because you feel totally fierce doing it. Trust me, I hate stepping in mud puddles, but I have no qualms about going hands and knees through a mud pit to get to the other side. And really, mud is only temporary. Plus, mud runs are a really fun experience in which you don't have to worry about time or PRs or any of that silly nonsense for once because you're just doing obstacles and going down slides and splashing around and generally having a blast. It's not about pace. You can't wear your Garmin because it would get totaled in a mud pit.

But what if you don't run? So what? You don't have to run during a mud run. You can walk between each obstacle and no one cares. Would you like to run it? Well, there's plenty of time to start a couch to 5k program and get yourself in running condition between now and September. In fact, if you live close enough to me, I'd be more than happy to help you along the way. Run with you. Walk with you during intervals. Cheer you on when you feel like you can't go another step.
What makes Pretty Muddy awesome as far as mud runs go? A lot of things, actually. For one, it isn't timed. So there's honestly no pressure on time. I suppose you could figure out what your time is if you really wanted, but if you want to spend an hour and a half on the course, there isn't going to be any record of you doing an hour and a half 5k. None at all. You don't have to do any obstacles that you don't feel comfortable doing. You don't even have to go through the mud if you don't want to (but trust me... you want to). On the flipside, if you find an obstacle really fun, you can do it as many times as you want! I love this because the slide at Pretty Muddy Chicago looked like a blast last year. It's also women only, so there's not going to be a moment where you're trying to climb a wall and some guy with ridiculous guns scales it like it's nothing (not that that's ever happened to me, ahem).
