Yearly

I'm really not a huge New Year's resolution person. One, because I never really know what to resolve. Not because I can't use some changing, because goodness knows I can, but just because the thought of changing something for one whole entire year is daunting because life changes so much from one month to the next.

So honestly? My only resolution is to eat a Big Mac because I'm 28 and I have never, ever had a Big Mac. I asked on Twitter if I should eat one and I got responses that fell into two categories: NO DEAR GOD NO YOUR ARTERIES WILL CLOG AND YOU WILL DIE OF THE DISGUSTING vs. OH DEAR GOD YES WHY HAVEN'T YOU EATEN ONE DO YOU LIVE IN A CAVE
Because I'm the type of person who believes that you should try any sort of edible thing once (on our honeymoon, I ate a termite. It tasted like mint), I believe that at some point, I will eat a Big Mac. Probably this year. I aim high with my resolutions, see?

But also, other than resolutions, there are things I want to do. One is that I want to continue the daily photo project I began last year. I'm a little disappointed because I didn't make it past November 21 last year, due to spending a week without the internet, then being without a phone for three weeks. But honestly, it's pretty great that I managed to document almost the entire year. I love that I can look back in the archives a year ago and see tiny baby Tommy (who incidentally, judging from this photo, is still teething just as bad now as he was a year ago).

The other thing I've always wanted to do is write down all the books I read in one year. Last year, I wrote down the books I read in January, February, and March and then I just kind of forgot about it. To push myself to not give up this year, I started a tumblr for books. I do a fair amount of reading because I have 30 minutes of mandated silent reading time every day with the kids and since we don't have cable, I unwind at night by reading instead of TV watching. So hopefully at this time next year, I'll have compiled a list of books I read in 2011. There's really no reason that I want to do it, except that I think it might just be fun.

But honestly? I'm kind of most excited about the Big Mac.

I've never had a Big Mac, either. What makes this highly confusing is that I'm also fat. So, yeah, seems like a bummer to be fat and to have never had a Big Mac.

i love the quarter pounder, but find big macs utterly disgusting. i think it's the "special sauce". ugh. i don't know that i've ever ordered one. maybe had a bite, but never eaten an entire one on my own...never going to either.

have you read "infinite jest"? maybe it will be my new year's resolution. i've tried and had trouble getting into it.

also, goodreads.com is easy and fun to use to record your books! i keep track of my books there, in a Word document and some in a spreadsheet. i may need help.

Big mac...why not. Daily photo project...definitely. I'm doing one of those myself. List the books you read...great idea. I may just steal that one.

i love the big mac- but i am going off of memory. They used to taste a lot better than they do now.

I'd rather eat a big n' tasty (i dig mayo)

I haven't read a book in a few years, only kid books. Sad.

Nom nom nom, BIG MAC. Yes, you'll enjoy it.
Also, I never make it through a whole year keeping up with all my books. I try though!

I've never had a Big Mac OR a Twinkie! I can't muster up the will to do it, though.

I see someone has already suggested Goodreads...it's great for keeping up with what you've read AND for seeing what others say about books.

I am also going to try to take a picture a day. I always say I am going to write down the books I read with a sentence or two about them. It would be easier when my students ask me about books, but I never manage to!

You wanna meet up for a big mac soon? Or a big mac and margaritas?

And find me on goodreads - under my real name.

Everyone's been asking me about my resolution(s) for this year and all that I've come up with is to finish grad school in May. And to learn to drive (I've lived in NYC my whole life and so yea...). But that's all I've got. I usually don't make resolutions either. Maybe I'll jump in on that "eating a big mac" thing. I too, have never had one and I hear it tastes yummy. I think it's a great idea that you'll chronicle with photos and list all the books you've read.

I have never had a Big Mac, either. I love your other ideas too! I wish I took more photos and had time to read more, I just don't right now. My list would consist solely of school books. Good luck though!

You've never had a Big Mac?!?! Oh my. They are GOOD- but not something I can eat all the time. Probably just because of the calories. I'm excited to see your list of books! I read a lot and am always looking for something new to read. Sounds like some great resolutions to me!

I used to love Big Macs but was disappointed a few months ago when I tried one. Hope you get a good one, and am curious to see what you think about all the hype.

I too only made it to September last year in my daily photo project, but have started again this year. Hoping that it will help me to look at each moment, no matter how small and realize we'll never get that back so enjoy all of them!

I haven't had a Big Mac since high school. I actually haven't digested that one yet! Haha! I'm excited to see your books unfold... and I'd always love more pics of your beautiful family. Happy New Year, beautiful lady! xo!

Now you have me craving a Big Mac, but I won't give in to this craving. We should have a Big Mac party someday...I'll bring the fries & pick up the cupcakes...

1) Corrin, high five, sister! (That means I'm a chubby who has also never eaten a big mac) Condiments kinda gross me out, so I think I'll let you ladies handle this one.

2) Your book project inspired me to blog my books this year, too!

Okay, first of all the Big Mac thing is hilarious - but I could never eat one. Too much on it I do not like. :)

You are going to need your own folder in my google reader if you keep this up! Between a your blog, A Day in the Life, and now the book one - I am following you thrice. But I am excited to steal book ideas from you and I LOVE that you are writing a bit about the book on it too! I hope you do keep it up all year. Sounds like we read at about the same speed. :)

ps.... I have 11 minutes of silent reading with my kids per day - it's such a battle I barely get to read! Plus just when you get into what you are reading (I am reading The Shack at school right now) SSR is over. Grr.

I'm just a little shocked that you've never had a BigMac because a)McDonald's is EVERYWHERE b) you are of the generation that has eaten it lots of Mickey D's c)I know you like food - A LOT! ;)

I had one once a week or so in my senior yr. in HS b/c my best friend loved McDonald's and I'm still alive. BUT, I haven't had one in YEARS.

Sounds good...

Happy Big Mac, I mean NEW Year! :D

I think Elaine just called you a heifer. :)

(I'm totally kidding!)

P.S. I've also never eaten a Big Mac and I am much more of a heifer than you are. We should go together, I'll buy.

Ohmygosh, you have NEVER had a Big Mac??!! Girl you MUST try one. No, they of course aren't healthy in the least, rather they are probably the worst thing for your body, but all things in moderation is my belief!! Go try one now!!

Good luck with your picture taking and book recording this year. You can do it. I hope your new year is off to a great start!!
