Like the lift of a friend delivering homemade soup, bread, berries, and whipped cream (in a can!).
And then as if the lift of soup full of goodies isn't enough, another friend sneaks peanut butter chocolate cupcakes onto your porch (along with a hilarious, sweet note about them being a lesser known cure for the Plague). And how I wish I had a picture of those for you, but if we have to be honest... I ate them all before I realized that I didn't take a picture. But they were GOOD, made even better by the sentiment behind them.Amazing how food can be such a comfort, how normal food can become amazing when delivered by friends.
This weekend, I'm having a candle party, which is not something that I usually do, but I LOVE these candles. I always spend a decent amount of money on new candles every season, because I feel like it adds so much warmth to a house to smell like the season (and I'm sure you will not be surprised to know that my favorite seasonal smells are all food related!). More importantly, though, I've decided that I need to stop complaining that my house is too small or too far away from everyone and instead, fill it with friends, food, and drinks. Because it doesn't matter how much space you have, what matters is the laughter and delicious smells you fill it with--and speaking of, my husband is so wonderful that he's more than happy to make food for the party. In fact, he was offended because I mentioned the possibility of just getting Pizza Rolls (which are delicious and I love so much). I'm not sure what he's going to make, but I hope it involves a lot of carbs, because truly, my comfort foods are all high in carbs (cupcakes, bread, cheese, and more cupcakes). What are your favorite comfort foods? And your candle smells? Are you the type of person who could breathe nothing but cinnamon roll and be happy, or do you like to mix it up with flowers and clean cotton (neither of which you'll ever see me burning!).

It's so funny that you posted about this because I just told my husband that I wanted to break out the fall candles since the weather has been cooler recently. Apple pie is my favorite fall candle scent, but really any baked goods smell I enjoy. :-)
Macaroni and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods. Panera just came out with an amazing mac and cheese that I love, so if you are a mac and cheese fan, check it out!
I love candles. Especially the fall candles. I love baked apple, caramels, and coffees. I really don't do the flowery scents, I mainly stick to the foods. Like the one currently burning is Toffee Drizzled Popcorn.
Delish!!
I like "foodie" candles too. ESPECIALLY vanilla or Cinnamon. But I did burn one over the summer that was "Island Margarita" - still something delicious to consume! :)
I love clean linen. I burn it in my hallway- just for a refreshing smell as you walk through the door.
Mulberry, and Vanilla-Lime, and anything berry or beachy.
I occasionally like pumpkin-y candles in the fall, but not often.
Comfort food? Anything with chocolate, or ice cream, or coffee.... Hmm... Tacos. Or Homemade pizza. Vegetable soup. And bread. Good bread is a must when you need some comfort...
Tonight... Taco salad, with homemade tortillas--- comfort. I need it. ;)
I love apple candles, vanilla candles, cookie.
I am totally a "fall scents" kinda girl. Pumpkin spice, apple orchard, harvest....they all make me happy and warm inside! You won't find a single icky floral scent in my house - with one exception...in the spring I will burn lilac scented candles. Lilac is the only floraly (yes, it is a word) scent I can handle. Maybe because Lilacs are one of the few things I truly miss about living up north!
As for comfort foods, oh man - cheese. More cheese. Bread, cheese and wine. Did I mention cheese? Oh, and chocolate chip cookies. Yum.
I wish I could come to your candle party! I'm a sucker for a yummy smelling candle!
Those peanut butter chocolate cupcakes sound amazing!! Yum!! There is a cupcake shop about 2 blocks from my work that may be calling my name sometime this week.
I've heard such great things about Gold Canyon candles but haven't purchased any yet. Have so much fun- enjoy and relax!! Some of my favorite candles are Macintosh peach, buttercream and this amazing caramel pumpkin pie one I bought a couple years ago. I use it sparingly each year as I haven't found anything similar and can't bear to be without!
It's so great you have a husband that is such a good cook, but it has to be said- pizza rolls are AMAZING!
i'm so sad that i'm going to miss this time. maybe you'll all be there late?!
my favorite scent is hazelnut coffee. i like clean cotton scent from the upstairs sometimes though.
I adore candles! The really pretty ones I always hate to burn and make them not nice and perfect anymore. It's dumb but I can't help it. :) I looooooove any strawberry candle I can get my hands on and I tend to not switch them out by season because my husband likes things like clean linen but I love strawberry so I usually just leave those out ALL the time to avoid arguing over new scents!
Vanilla for candles. Pumpkin, too, this time of year. I love Pine scents for the holidays. Comfort foods? Hmmmmm. Potato chips. Lots and lots of them.
You are one very blessed lady to have such wonderful (and fun!) friends... ! And husband, of course!
I love it when other people cook for you. I especially love it when my mom cooks for me, it's always the best! I think one of my favorite comfort foods are potatoes, such as creamed, mashed, soup, chips... Yum! Sweets are also good, like cookies, cakes, and bread.
I'm with you on candles, gotta love the food scents. In the summer I LOVE lemon, smells so fresh. In the fall and winter I love apple, cinnamon, or vanilla.
Salty carbs, salty carbs, and oh, also some salty carbs. #comfortfoods
I love cinnamon and clove candles, I stock up in the fall and burn them for as long as I can get away with. In the spring I burn lavender or lemon or kitchen herbs. But I hate candles that smell like sweet foods, because they make me hungry! I never understood that commercial where the ladies walk into their friend's house and it smells like apple pie... isn't that a huge letdown to think you're getting apple pie and then find out it's just a candle??
I LOVE THAT PHOTO!
