These Shoes

If you've seen any of the photos from the March of Dimes walk, you may have noticed that I was wearing flip flops at a six mile walk. If you were at the March of Dimes walk, you may have heard several mom type characters chastising me for wearing flip flops to a six mile walk (I also got yelled at for not wearing a coat. MOMS.).
By CrookedEyebrow

(Oh, and the reason Tommy is pantsless is because I was in the middle of changing a diaper when everyone lined up for thepicture, so I had to sprint back with my pantsless child and jump in the photo. I did put his pants on before the walk!)

It's okay, though, because these shoes are magical. I bought them eight years ago, which is an unheard of lifespan for flip flops. I found them at the J. Crew outlet and let me tell you, if I found them again, I would buy every single pair JUST IN CASE. These shoes have walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, around NYC, and back across the bridge to Brooklyn, the whole while with Shane chastising me for not wearing proper shoes. But at the end of the night, guess who was complaining of sore feet and blisters? NOT ME. These shoes have walked through the jungles of Belize, with our guide chastising me for not wearing snake protective footwear. But I showed him by, you know, not getting bitten by any venomous snakes.

These shoes have never let me down. My only complaint is that I don't own them in every single color, because the fact that they're red prevents me from wearing them every single day.

So, at the end of almost six miles, my feet felt no worse the wear. Now, my back and shoulders? Well, that's another story...

All flip flops from J Crew are magical. My sister and I both have a pair that we've worn for years. They aren't your usual foam flip flops - they are rubber! Wonderful wonderful rubber. Whenever we see them at the outlet, we pick up another pair "just in case."

Being one of the "Moms", I was more worried about the temperature of your feet. It was chilly and wet out there. You never said the shoes were magical. I never would have worried. It was great to see you again.

omg, J Crew flip flops are the BEST. Seriously. I live in my thick foam ones. I love them and they make me 5'3 which makes me HAPPY.

Yeah, J Crew is my happy place.

Oh the flip flop. Not everyone understands the magical pair and not everyone finds one. I have some (Men's flip flops actually) from GAP and I found them again last summer. I bought all of them they had left in my size, which was unfortunately only two pairs. But that does give me three pairs total. AND I have black and brown as two of the pairs. Not very pretty colors (again Men's flip flops) but they match everything! I pretty much wear a pair to work everyday (bad - I know). I can walk f.o.r.e.v.e.r in them with no issues. And I am SO happy that I found more. Hope you find more someday too - or that yours never ever wear out. :)

Is it bad that I giggled when I saw the little scratch on your forehead in that picture? Yes, it was, you're right. ;)

I have a pair of Teva flip flops like that. I wore them for the last 3 months of my pregnancy when I was a zillion pounds overweight and full of water and swollen to huge proportions and walking 2 miles a day to get from the subway to work and back. And they were the best shoes EVER.

Amazing what magical flip flops can do, isn't it?

(Also glad they were magical since NO "real" shoes were ever going to fit over those swollen piggies of mine.)

The first thing I thought when I saw the pic on Beth's blog was "was it hot or cold out?"

CE, Beth and the babes are all bundled up and you and tommy are ready for fun in the sun.

My next thought..."I would have been weraing flip flops too! And Chase's cute chunky legs would have been on display just like Tommy's!"

Since I live in FL I can wear them year round! (ok don't hate, I'd give them up to be in IN with my BFF) My daughter's hooked now too!0

oh and I have a confession...I've never headr of J Crew:(
maybe we don't have them in FL? or maybe I live under a rock?

But if they have magical flip flops I must find this store!

girl, who says you can't wear red shoes with every outfit?!

[your shoes aren't supposed to match your outfit, they're just supposed to go.]

Magical flip flops? I'm so a non-believer....6 miles?? I'd have flip flop shaped holes in my feet. I've also recently learned there is much latex in flip flops. Possible explanation for my non-belief. :-)

SO PROUD of ALL OF YOU!

If my toes looked like that, I'd wear flip flops all the time and if I found magic flip flops like yours, I'd probably wear them to bed. But, so far, I'm flip flopless. If J Crew ever starts to carry these again, are you going to let us all know (or buy them all for yourself?).
And, kudos to you. I didn't know you did the whole six! You rock!

I just bought two more pairs of Teva Mush flip-flops because my last pair--which I bought in 2003!!--aren't as cushy as they used to be and my foot is perfectly impressed into the foam. I could wear them ANYWHERE, too... although I think I'd draw the line at the jungles of Belize, lol! :)

sorry for being a worry wart...you and Steph are so much alike. She lives in flip flops too. I didn't know they were magical, so no wonder you wore them. I have magical ones I wear around the house, my crocks. Enjoyed walking with you and Tommy and you letting us ole' mom's worry about you.
