Yes, of all the gorgeous family photos I have, this is my favorite one. Why? Because it's silly. Because it makes me think of a good time. Because it's just so us.
We were on our way to a Halloween party, the day after Halloween. Luke and I were both dressed as devils, and Shane was rocking his Indiana Jones look. He'd grown his facial hair just right, and I was teasing him about how he had to shave it that night so Beth could take our family photos the next day. He told me he wanted one photo of his kickass goatee, so here it is. Shane affecting his most tough guy look, me with my devil wings poking into the picture, and Luke (for those of you ready to call CPS for an improperly done car seat, we'd just gotten to our destination, and I'd halfway unstrapped him when Shane begged me to take a photo!) looking like he's thinking, What in the WORLD is wrong with these people??
I love it.

Oh, yeah. Luke definitely has the what-is-wrong-with-them look! Wait 'til he's 12 and you're dressed as a devil and Shane is Indiana Jones and the new baby, who'll be 10 or so by then, will be joining with Luke... and "the look" will be more like my-parents-are-so-lame!!
This really is a perfect photo. One of my favorite photos is Audrey and her husband coming up the aisle as husband and wife... it is all colors and smiles and time and space in a wonderful blur. Life's tapestry is what I call it. It was taken by a guest who just happened to be in the last pew... and this is the photo that I had enlarged and framed. Perfection... the perfect moment... just like yours!
Love that! It made me smile, too!
Sometimes these are the best photos. And it is the story behind it that makes the picture.
What a great photo! It looks like you are really having a lot of fun.
This is so great! Poor Luke. ;)
Okay, I totally just put the phone down. I was just about to dial CPS. Silly girl ;)
I love photos like that too. Silly faces, blurred movements, bad lighting, it doesn't matter. It's the time that matters, the feeling, the laughter, the emotions.
Such a great post, Erin!!
Families being silly are the best photos! That is a great one.
This is a lovely photo! Thanks for sharing!
How could you not love it, it's AWESOME! You guys are so much fun.
Yes, you are right. Great photo!
I also prefer photos that show me a "moment" rather than a posed portrait.
You're such a sweet devil! ;)
So cute!
